No.1 Subject overview
Electrical Engineering, which is the first level discipline of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, is the first batch of national key disciplines. It ranks third in the evaluation of the disciplines in China. It is the first batch of doctoral authorization points, postdoctoral mobile stations and first-level doctoral degree authorization points in China. Under the guidance of constructing the world-class universities and world-class disciplines, the discipline is oriented to the international academic frontier, the country's major needs and the main battlefield of the national economy. While maintaining and establishing the direction of traditional superior disciplines, the emerging disciplines such as superconducting power, pulse power, strong magnetic field, magnetic confinement fusion, plasma and accelerator have been gradually developed. Some important research progresses have been made, and a relatively complete modern electric engineering discipline system has been formed.
In terms of academic team: there are 70 professors, including 3 academicians, 2 national-level teaching teams, 2 innovation teams accredited by the Ministry of Education, 1 innovation teams in priority areas accredited by the Ministry of Science and Technology and 1 national advanced group of professional and technical personnel. It has formed a high-level academic team with clear academic research direction and balanced research strength in all fields.
In terms of research bases: It has two national scientific research platforms and a batch of provincial -level platforms, and also has the most complete scientific research and innovation support conditions for domesticelectrical engineering disciplines. among which the pulsed magnetic field experimental device is the only national major scientific and technological infrastructure in the electrical engineering discipline, which has become One of the world's best pulsed magnetic field devices; the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Electromagnetic Engineering and New Technology passed the national acceptance and evaluation in 2013; the magnetic confinement fusion experimental platform has the only medium tokamak J-TEXT in domestic universities. It possesses one Major National Science and Technology Infrastructure, one State Key Laboratory and nine provincial-level Key Laboratories (Engineering Research Centers). Among all the research bases, experimental device for pulsed magnetic field is the only Major National Science and Technology Infrastructure, and which has become one of the best world-level pulsed magnetic field device. State Key Laboratory of Advanced Electromagnetic Engineering and Technology passed the national acceptance and evaluation in 2013. The Magnetic Confinement Fusion Experimental Platform has the only medium-sized tokamak J-TEXT in Chinese universities and it was recognized as a base for the personnel training and basic research by the Ministry of Education.
No.2 Maindisciplinedirection and cultivating methods
The electrical engineering discipline consists of five traditional second-level disciplines (Electric Machines and Electric Apparatus, Power System and its Automation, High Voltage and Insulation Technology, Power Electronics and Power Drives, Theory and New Technology of Electrical Engineering) and two self-designed second-level discipline (Pulse Power and Plasma, Electrical Information Detection Technology). All second-level disciplines have developed around the country's major needs and the frontier of the discipline, which have formed several unique research contents.
The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering enrolls and trains postgraduates (including various types of doctoral and master's students) in accordance with the first-level discipline of “Electrical Engineering”. When graduates graduate, they do not distinguish between departments or research directions, and uniformly grant doctoral degrees in “Electrical Engineering”.
No.3 Introduction to the Admissions Department
The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering includes the Department of Machine and Control Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of High Voltage Engineering, Department of Applied Electronic Engineering, Department of Theory and New Technology of Electrical Engineering, Institute of Fusion and Plasma, Institute of High Magnetic Field Technology (National High Magnetic Field Center) and Institute of Applied Electromagnetic Engineering. Each department recruits students in multiple disciplines and manages by the Graduate School of the College.
(1)Department of Machine and Control Engineering
The Department of Machine and Control Engineering was established in 1954. It is the first batch of master's degree and doctoral degree authorization points approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.. It forms a unique research direction covering multidisciplinary fields: engineering electromagnetic field theory and application; motor noise and vibration research; theory of motor winding; large-size power-generation equipment; novel special type motor and its control system; electrical equipment operation and its control system; monitoring, protection, fault diagnosis and reliability of motor and its system;online monitoring and state maintenance;electric drive and its automatic control system; new energy and new power generation technology; basic theory of motor, computer analysis and simulation;theory and technology of new energy storage mode;CAD/CAM technology, intelligent technology and expert system for motor design and manufacture; magnetic materials; new concepts and intelligent motors.The Department of Machine and Control Engineering currently has 28 faculty members, including 8 professors, 13 associate professors, 4 lecturers and 2 postdoctoral fellows.
(2)Department of Electrical Engineering
The Department of Electric Power Engineering was formerly known as the Power System and its Automation Teaching and Research Section, which was founded on the second-level discipline of Power System and its Automation.. The Department of Electric Power Engineering has a solid foundation in traditional electric disciplines, including: power system analysis, power system stability control, power system relay protection, power system operation and planning. The department also has strong academic influences in some emerging disciplines, including renewable energy power generation, smart grid and micro grid, energy storage and power system applications, flexible AC and DC transmission, which is closely integrated with the major needs of the power industry development. It undertook a number of national-level major projects, which won the first and the second prize of The State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, and second prize of State Technological Invention Award. The domestic first-class power system dynamic simulation laboratory provides a good platform for power system research. There are 43 full-time teachers, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 19 professors, and 9 associate professors, which has strong teaching and research strength in the Power System and its Automation discipline..
(3)Department of High Voltage Engineering
Departmentof High Voltage Engineering, founded in the 1950s, is established depending on the second-level discipline, High Voltage and Insulation Technology. Based on the conventional research directions, such as traditional high voltage and high current testing technology, overvoltage and insulation coordination of power system, high voltage insulation, electrical switch and intellectualization, the Department forms three characteristic research directions, including high-power switching technology, pulsed power technology and its application, and overvoltage and lightning protection of power system. It contains the research contents such as key technologies of Large Capacity AC/DC Switchgear, lightning protection and ground connection technology of power system, overvoltage protection and electromagnetic compatibility, condition monitoring and evaluation technology of power equipment, basic theory and key technologies of electromagnetic emission, pulse power technology and its application. Through our efforts, one Key Laboratory of Pulsed Power Technology accredited by Ministry of Education and a synthetic test oscillation circuit laboratory have been established. For the recent decade, more than 200 million yuan has been spent on scientific research and there have achieved two national science and technology awards and six provincial-level awards. There have published more than 300 SCI/EI papers, more than 40 authorized invention patents and 2 monographs.Department of High Voltage Engineeringhas 22 full-time teachers, including one academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 professors and 8 associate professors.
(4)Department of Applied Electronic Engineering
The Department of Applied Electronics Engineering is dedicated to the research of power electronics and power transmission. The traditional research interests include power electronics and its applications, power electronics and systems, power transmission and its control systems, and electromagnetic compatibility research for power electronic circuits. Among them, the research on the topology and control technology of power electronic converter, modular parallel technology and electromagnetic compatibility theory ranks in the domestic advanced position, and the research of many military and civilian power electronic devices and systems fill the domestic blank. Aiming at the development frontier of disciplines, focusing on the cross-innovation of disciplines, a large number of new research directions have been formed, such as power electronics integration technology, ship full electric propulsion system, integrated power system integration technology, locomotive traction technology, new-energy power-generation technology, power electronic power systems, smart grid technology, etc. In recent years, we have undertaken a number of national key R&D projects and the National Natural Science Foundation project, and established joint laboratories with many internationally renowned companies such as ABB and Infineon. At present, there are 11 professors and 10 associate professors.
(5)Department of Electrical Theory and New Electromagnetic Technology
Department of Electrical Theory and New Electromagnetic Technologydevotes itself to the teaching and scientific research of many fields, such as electromagnetic field theory and its application, electrical information detection technology, discharge plasma, superconducting application technology, pulsed power technology, power system analysis and power electronics. Focusing on the national strategic demand, interdisciplinary and innovation, the department has expanded the research and application of electrical engineering theory and electromagnetic measurement in the fields of national defense, scientific experiment, environment and life. Moreover, many scientific research achievements are at the international advanced level or leading level. Our department has won 2 Second Class Prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award and many province-level scientific and technological awards. The department has the only 320k ampere-turns high-precision DC high-current detection device in China, the international advanced level diagnosis and application research of discharge plasma, and the domestic leading level research on new optical voltage and current transformer. There are 10 professors. The current main research directions include electromagnetic measurement, gas discharge and its application, pulse power technology, and superconducting application technology. Electromagnetic new technology application research has no boundary, , welcome the student who is interested in carrying out new exploration to apply for the examination.
(6)Institute of Fusion and Plasma Research
Institute of Fusion and Plasma Research, under the leadership of Academician Pan Yuan, is committed to the research on magnetic confinement fusion plasma theory, experimental science and engineering technology. It was founded in response to the ITER project, which is the largest international cooperative project in China. Institute of Fusion and Plasma Research pays attention to cultivate interdisciplinary talents, and has realized the crossing and development of several subjects like electrical, physics, material, energy, machinery, control and computer. It has the only medium-sized tokamak fusion experimental device in domestic universities. It has undertaken 32 national major research projects, such as ITER project, “973” project and National Natural Science Foundation of China, There are 24 teachers and 13 technicians, including one academician. The main research directions of the Institute of Fusion and Plasma Research are as follows: magnetic confinement plasma theory and numerical simulation, magnetic confinement plasma experiment, plasma diagnosis, plasma heating technology, special power technology, computer control technology, special equipment electromagnetic analysis design, industrial plasma application. (7)National High Magnetic Field Center
The Institute of Strong Magnetic Field Technology focuses on the demand for magnetic field technology in industries and fields such as energy, transportation, manufacturing, metallurgy, environmental protection, medical equipment, defense equipment, and major science and technology basic research equipment, and conducts research on strong magnetic field technology and its applications. Formed a number of research directions with distinctive characteristics and international frontier status, including: high-parameter magnet design theory and application, high-power high-current power supply technology, multi-time-space electromagnetic forming and processing theory and application, and large-scale permanent magnet equipment integrated magnetization technology , new magnetic refrigeration technology, superconducting application technology, bio-electromagnetic technology. The National Pulse Strong Magnetic Field Science Center, which is supported by the discipline, has the first national major scientific and technological infrastructure built by the Ministry of Education--the pulse strong magnetic field experimental device. The technical indicators of this device have reached the international advanced or leading level, and are the frontiers. The scientific field provides extremely strong user services and has published a large number of high-level and high-impact papers. It is the largest public experimental platform for pulsed magnetic fields in Asia and has become one of the world's leading pulsed magnetic field facilities. The Center attaches great importance to the introduction and training of talents, introduces 3 special experts for the “Thousand Talents Program”, 5 candidates for the “Young Thousand Talents Program”, and 4 candidates for the “New Century Excellent Talents Program” of the Ministry of Education, and successfully approved the “High School”. The Discipline Innovation Initiative Base (Project 111) and the Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education have formed a research team with international academic influence in related fields.
The Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center (WHMFC) is a national research institute based on one of the twelve National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure Projects funded by the Chinese National Development and Reformation Committee. The center has completed the development of a pulsed high magnetic field facility and opened to public scientific researchers from both inland and abroad since October, 2014.
The total investment for the pulsed magnetic field facility is 180 million RMB. Three kinds of power system, including a 25.6 MJ capacitor bank consisting of 24 modules of 1 MJ each and 2 modules of 800 kJ each, a 100 MJ / 100 MVA , and a 1000 V lead-acid battery have been built in order to generate pulsed magnetic fields with peak field ranging from 50 T to 90.6 T (highest in Asia, third highest in the world). Eight experimental stations for studying electrical transport, magnetic properties, magneto-optics and electron spin resonance (ESR) can be used in parallel, equipment such as low temperature cryostats (from 50 mK to 400 K), high pressure cells and various lasers with associated optical systems has been installed. This provides an outstanding research tool and high-level research opportunities in the research areas of physics, chemistry, life science and materials science for the scientific communities in China and abroad. An experienced in-house staff provides the necessary assistance to researchers from China and all over the world. Alongside the national laboratories at Los Alamos, Dresden, Tokyo and Toulouse, it has become one of the world's five major scientific centers providing strong pulsed magnetic fields for scientific research and practical applications.
In addition, the development of new technology for electromagnetic equipment will be further pursued. Research on engineering technology with pulsed magnets includes electromagnetic forming, magnetic refrigeration, eddy current brakes and integrated experimental devices for the overall post-assembly magnetization of oversized wind-driven generators.
The WHMFC attaches great importance to academic exchange and cooperation both at home and abroad. It has established good cooperative relations with the KU Leuven in Belgium, the High Field Laboratory Dresden (HLD) in Germany, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) in the United States, University of Tokyo in Japan, Northeastern University, Beijing University, Nanjing University, Fudan University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The transfer of experience and technology from other research institutions as well as independent research has led to the development of advanced magnets, power supplies and other equipment by several scientific research institutions. (8)Institute of Applied Electromagnetic Engineering
Under the leadership of academician Fan Mingwu, the Institute of Applied Electromagnetic Engineering is devoted to the research of electromagnetic basic theory and accelerator technology. Electromagnetic theory is the basis of lucubrating the electrical engineering research, and particle accelerator is widely used in many fields, such as new materials, medical, environmental protection, energy, national defense and so on. The research contents include electromagnetic field analysis, accelerator engineering, power supply technology, magnet technology, ion source technology, microwave technology, and so on. It involves the intersection of electrical, physical, control, microwave, superconducting, materials, machinery and other disciplines. The research direction is aiming at the international frontier and basic application, and many scientific research achievements are in the international advanced level or leading level. The main research areas are electrical theory and new technology, accelerator technology, power electronics and power transmission, high voltage and insulation technology, motor and control, electromagnetic field theory and numerical calculation, electrical information detection technology, etc.
