The third quantum oscillation phenomenon is found under the pulsed strong magnetic field

On November 2nd, based on the experimental device platform of Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center, Professor Wang Jian and Academician Xie Xincheng of Peking University made a major breakthrough in the field of quantum materials research, and discovered the third law of quantum oscillation - logarithmic quantum oscillation ( figure 1),related research results published in "Science Advances" under the title "Discovery of log-periodic oscillations in ultraquantum topological materials", evaluated as the most important discovery in the field of quantum oscillations in the past half century.

In this study, the strong magnetic field is an indispensable experimental condition, which plays a crucial role in proving the log-cycle quantum oscillation.According to Professor Wang Jian of the research team, due to limited conditions, they have observed two or three less obvious oscillations under the condition of 10T magnetic field strength. It is impossible to prove that these oscillations have a logarithmic periodic variation.With the experimental device platform of Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center, under the magnetic field strength of 58T, the research team clearly observed five oscillations and obtained reliable measurement data (see Figure 3), making this discovery more convincing, and academician Xie Xincheng spoke highly of the role of the pulsed magnetic field experimental device in this study.
