In 1958, the Department of Electrical power system of Huazhong Institute of Technology was separated into two parts: Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Hydraulic Power. The Department of Electrical Engineering included majors of Motor and Electrical Engineering, Industrial Enterprise Electrification, Radio Technology and Automation & telecontrol. The Department of Hydraulic Power included majors of Power Plant, Grid and Electrical Power system, Hydraulic Power Plant and Water Turbine & Hydraulic Machinery.
