No.1 Subject overview

The first-level discipline "Electrical Engineering" of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is the first batch of national key disciplines, the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" key construction disciplines, and the first batch of national dual-class construction disciplines. It ranks third in the evaluation of the disciplines. In the 2016 assessment, it ranks in the category A disciplines. It is the first batch of doctoral authorization points, postdoctoral mobile stations and first-level doctoral degree authorization points in China. Under the guidance of the world's world-class universities and world-class disciplines, the discipline is oriented to the international academic frontier, the country's major needs and the main battlefield of the national economy. It features strong electromagnetic engineering and relies on large installations, large platforms and large teams to "deepen electrification + " strategic thinking, condensing new discipline growth points. While maintaining and establishing the direction of traditional superior disciplines, the emerging disciplines such as superconducting power, pulse power, strong magnetic field, magnetic confinement fusion, plasma and accelerator have been gradually developed and important research progress has been made, forming a relatively complete modern electric engineering discipline system.

In terms of academic team: there are 70 professors, including 3 academicians, 4 middle-aged planners (full-time), 4 young people, 12 young people, 8 Changjiang scholars, and 2 national outstanding youth fund winners. 2 chief scientists of the 973 project, 2 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 3 of the 100 students of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 of the 100 plan of Hubei Province, 16 new talents of the Ministry of Education (cross), 5 scholars of Chutian, and the country 2 teaching teams, 2 innovation teams in the Ministry of Education, 1 innovation team in key areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 1 advanced group of professional and technical personnel in the country. It has formed a high-level academic team with clear academic research direction and balanced research strength in all directions.

In terms of research bases: It has two national scientific research platforms and a number of provincial and ministerial-level platforms, and has the most complete scientific research and innovation support conditions for domestic electrical disciplines. Including one of the country's major scientific and technological infrastructure, one of the national key laboratories, and nine provincial and ministerial key laboratories (engineering research centers), among which the pulsed magnetic field experimental device is the only national major scientific and technological infrastructure in the electrical engineering discipline, which has become One of the world's best pulsed magnetic field devices; the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Electromagnetic Engineering and New Technology passed the national acceptance and evaluation in 2013; the magnetic confinement fusion experimental platform has the only medium tokamak J-TEXT in domestic universities. It was recognized by the Ministry of Education as a base for the training and basic research of magnetic restraint fusion talents.

No.2 Main subject direction

The school's electrical engineering discipline consists of five traditional secondary disciplines (motors and electrical appliances, power systems and automation, high voltage and insulation technology, power electronics and power transmission, electrical theory and new technology) and two self-designed two Level of discipline (pulse power and plasma, electrical information detection technology). All directions have developed around the country's major needs and the frontier of the discipline, forming a unique research content.

No.3 Admissions Department and training methods

1.Introduction to the Admissions Department

The College includes the Department of Electrical and Control Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of High Voltage Engineering, Department of Applied Electronic Engineering, Department of Electrical Theory and New Electromagnetics, Institute of Fusion and Plasma, Institute of Strong Magnetic Field Technology (National Pulsed Magnetic Field Center) and Eight secondary units, such as the Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering, are applied, and each department recruits students in multiple research directions. Postgraduate enrollment is managed by the Graduate School of the College.

(1)Department of Electrical and Control Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Control Engineering was established in 1954. It is the first batch of master's degree and doctoral degree authorization points approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. The secondary disciplines of the motor and electrical appliances were rated as national key disciplines in the three discipline evaluations conducted by the Ministry of Education in 1987, 2002 and 2006. Long-term commitment to basic research and application basic research of new motor and control systems, forming a unique research direction covering multidisciplinary fields: engineering electromagnetic field theory and application; motor noise and vibration research; motor winding theory and application; major key technologies for large power generation equipment; new special motors and their control systems; research on the operation of electrical equipment and its control systems; monitoring, protection, fault diagnosis and reliability of motors and their systems;online monitoring and state maintenance of electrical equipments and systems;electric drive and its automatic control system; research on new energy and new power generation technology; basic theory of motor, computer analysis and simulation;study on theory and technology of new energy storage mode;CAD/CAM technology, intelligent technology and expert system for motor design and manufacture; magnetic materials; new concepts and intelligent motors.Currently, there is one outstanding contribution expert in hubei province, one national plan for thousand talents, one young person, and one young person from the ministry of science and technology.The department of electrical and control engineering currently has 28 faculty members, including 8 professors, 13 associate professors, 4 lecturers and 2 postdoctoral fellows.

(2)Department of Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electric Power Engineering was formerly known as the Power System and its Automation Teaching and Research Section,which was founded on the secondary discipline of our school's power system and its automation. The discipline was established in 1953. It began to recruit graduate students in 1961. In 2002, it was awarded the national key discipline, and it was the first batch of doctoral degree authorization points in the country (1981). The Department of Electric Power Engineering has a solid foundation in traditional electric disciplines, including: power system analysis, power system stability control, power system relay protection, power system operation and planning.In the aspects of emerging disciplines,the department has strong academic influence at home and abroad, including renewable energy power generation, smart grid and micro grid, energy storage and power system applications, flexible AC and DC transmission,which is closely integrated with the major needs of the power industry development.It undertook a number of national-level major projects,which won the first and the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress, and second prize of national technology invention award.The domestic first-class power system dynamic simulation laboratory built by the department provides a good platform for power system research.There are 43 full-time teachers, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one thousand planners, one Changjiang scholar, one thousand young people, 19 professors, and nine associate professors,which has strong teaching and research strength in the direction of power system and automation.

(3)Faculty of High Voltage Engineering

Faculty of High Voltage Engineering, founded in the 1950s, is established depending on the secondary subjects, High Voltage and Insulation Technology, of our school. Based on the research directions such as traditional high voltage and high current testing technology, overvoltage and insulation coordination of power system, high voltage insulation, electrical switch and intellectualization, there form three characteristic research directions, including high power switching technology, pulsed power technology and application, as well as overvoltage and lightning protection of power system, that contain the research contents such as Key Technologies of Large Capacity AC/DC Switchgear, Lightning Protection and Grounding Technology of Power System, Overvoltage Protection and Electromagnetic Compatibility, Condition Monitoring and Evaluation Technology of Power Equipment, Basic Theory and Key Technologies of Electromagnetic Emission, Pulse Power Technology and Its Application. Through our efforts, one key laboratory of pulsed power technology of Ministry of Education and a synthetic test oscillation circuit laboratory in Faculty of High Voltage Engineering have been established. For the recent decade, more than 200 million yuan has been spent on scientific research and there have achieved two national science and technology awards and six provincial awards. There have published more than 300 SCI/EI theses, more than 40 authorized invention patents and two professional works. Additionally, our faculty includes 22 full-time teachers including one academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, five professors and eight associate professors in Faculty of High Voltage Engineering.

(4)Department of Applied Electronic Engineering

The Department of Applied Electronics Engineering is dedicated to the research of power electronics and power transmission. The traditional research interests include power electronics and its applications, power electronics and systems, power transmission and its control systems, and electromagnetic compatibility research for power electronic circuits. Among them, the research on the topology and control technology of power electronic converter, modular parallel technology and electromagnetic compatibility theory ranks in the domestic advanced position, and the research of many military and civilian power electronic devices and systems fill the domestic gap. Aiming at the development frontier of disciplines, focusing on the cross-innovation of disciplines, a large number of new research directions have been formed, such as power electronics integration technology, ship full electric propulsion system, integrated power system integration technology, locomotive traction technology, new energy power generation technology. , power electronic power systems, smart grid technology, etc. In recent years, we have undertaken a number of national key R&D projects and the National Natural Science Foundation project, and established joint laboratories with many internationally renowned companies such as ABB and Infineon. At present, there are 11 professors and 10 associate professors. Among them, there are 1 "Thousand Talents Plan", 2 "Youth Thousand Talents Plan" and 1 "Youth Yangtze River Scholar".

(5)Department of Electrical Theory and New Electromagnetic Technology

The department of electrical engineering and new technology of electromagnetism devotes itself to the teaching and scientific research of electromagnetic field theory and its application, electrical information detection technology, discharge plasma, superconducting application technology, pulsed power technology, power system analysis and power electronics. Focusing on the national strategic demand, interdisciplinary and innovation, the department has expanded the research and application of electrical engineering theory and electromagnetic measurement in the fields of national defense, scientific experiment, environment and life, and many scientific research achievements are at the international advanced or leading level. Our department has won two second class prize of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology and many provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. The system has the only 320kA turns high-precision dc high-current detection device in China, the international advanced level of diagnosis and application research of discharge plasma, and the domestic leading level of research on new optical voltage and current transformer. There are 10 professors, including 1 scholar of Yangtze river, 1 outstanding young scholar and 1 young person. According to the first-level discipline of "electrical engineering" enrolled and trained master and doctoral students, the current main research directions include: electromagnetic measurement, gas discharge and its application, pulse power technology, and superconducting application technology. Electromagnetic new technology application research has no boundary, potential is not set limit, welcome the student who is interested in carrying out new exploration and direction expansion to apply for the examination.

(6)International Joint Research Laboratory of Magnetic Fusion and Plasma Physics(IFPP)

International Joint Research Laboratory of Magnetic Fusion and Plasma Physics(IFPP), under the leadership of Academician Pan Yuan, is committed to the research on magnetic confinement fusion plasma theory, experimental science and engineering technology, and other aspects. It was founded in response to the ITER project, the largest international cooperative project in China. IFPP pays attention to the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents, and has realized the crossing and development of subjects like electricity, physics, materials, energy, machinery, control and computer. IFPP has the only medium-sized tokamak fusion experimental device in domestic universities, which is an important component of the “State Key Laboratory of Advanced Electromagnetic Engineering and Technology” of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and is responsible for the “Magnetic Trap Type Fusion Neutron Source Experimental Facility” in the “14th Five-Year” national key scientific and technological infrastructure cultivation project of the ministry of education. IFPP has undertaken 32 national major research projects, such as ITER project, “973” project and national natural science major fund, and has obtained over 150 million yuan from the state for scientific research. Currently, 5 national projects are being studied, and 2 new key research and development plans have been approved. There are 24 teachers and 13 technicians, including 1 academician and 2 members of the “Thousand Talents Program”. Now, IPFF recruits and trains master and doctoral students according to the first-level discipline of "electrical engineering". Main research directions are as follows: magnetic confinement plasma theory and numerical simulation, magnetic confinement plasma experiment, plasma diagnosis, plasma heating technology, special power technology, computer control technology, special equipment electromagnetic analysis design, industrial plasma application. (7)Strong Magnetic Field Technology Institute

The Institute of Strong Magnetic Field Technology focuses on the demand for magnetic field technology in industries and fields such as energy, transportation, manufacturing, metallurgy, environmental protection, medical equipment, defense equipment, and major science and technology basic research equipment, and conducts research on strong magnetic field technology and its applications. Formed a number of research directions with distinctive characteristics and international frontier status, including: high-parameter magnet design theory and application, high-power high-current power supply technology, multi-time-space electromagnetic forming and processing theory and application, and large-scale permanent magnet equipment integrated magnetization technology , new magnetic refrigeration technology, superconducting application technology, bio-electromagnetic technology. The National Pulse Strong Magnetic Field Science Center, which is supported by the discipline, has the first national major scientific and technological infrastructure built by the Ministry of Education--the pulse strong magnetic field experimental device. The technical indicators of this device have reached the international advanced or leading level, and are the frontiers. The scientific field provides extremely strong user services and has published a large number of high-level and high-impact papers. It is the largest public experimental platform for pulsed magnetic fields in Asia and has become one of the world's leading pulsed magnetic field facilities. The Center attaches great importance to the introduction and training of talents, introduces 3 special experts for the “Thousand Talents Program”, 5 candidates for the “Young Thousand Talents Program”, and 4 candidates for the “New Century Excellent Talents Program” of the Ministry of Education, and successfully approved the “High School”. The Discipline Innovation Initiative Base (Project 111) and the Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education have formed a research team with international academic influence in related fields.

(8)Applied Electromagnetic Engineering Research Institute

Under the leadership of academician Fan Mingwu, the Institute of Applied Electromagnetic Engineering is devoted to the study of basic theory and engineering application with electromagnetic theory and accelerator technology as the core. Electromagnetic theory is the basis of conducting electrical engineering research, and particle accelerators are widely used in many fields, such as new materials, medical, environmental protection, energy, national defense and so on. The research contents include electromagnetic field analysis, accelerator engineering, power supply technology, magnet technology, ion source technology, microwave technology, and so on. It involves the intersection of electrical, physical, control, microwave, superconducting, materials, machinery and other disciplines. The research direction is aiming at the international frontier and basic application, and many scientific research achievements are in the advanced or leading international level. At present, China has undertaken the national key R&D program "proton knife" project, with a national allocation of 200 million yuan; and the key R&D project "free electron laser THz wave source" with a national allocation of 30 million yuan. There are one academicians, one person of Thousand Talents program, two people of Hundred People plan in Hubei province, one person of Chinese Academy of Sciences Hundred person program. Recruitment and training of master's and doctoral students in accordance with the "Electrical Engineering" of the first-level disciplines, the main research areas are: electrical theory and new technology, accelerator technology, power electronics and power transmission, high voltage and insulation technology, motor and control, electromagnetic field theory and numerical calculation, electrical information detection technology, etc.

2.Postgraduate enrollment and training

The college enrolls and trains postgraduates (including various types of doctoral and master's students) in accordance with the first-level discipline of “Electrical Engineering”. When graduates graduate, they do not distinguish between departments or research directions, and uniformly grant doctors or masters degrees in “Electrical Engineering”.

Academic degree graduates only enroll full-time academic degree (engineering) graduate students, and professional degree graduates enroll full-time professional degree (engineering) and part-time professional degree (engineering) graduate students, both at the same level, with different emphasis. The Master of Engineering focuses on basic theoretical studies and academic research. The Master of Engineering focuses on engineering quality training and engineering practice ability training.

The postgraduate students implement the mode of enrolling students according to the department and training according to the research direction. Each department recruits in multiple directions, as shown in Table 1. The first research direction of each department is the traditional research direction of the department. When applying for the candidate, in addition to filling in the research direction to be applied for, please indicate the name of the department to be submitted in the remarks column. Otherwise, it will automatically be regarded as the traditional department for applying for the research direction, for example, the direction of the motor and electrical appliance is not available. Filling out the department to be applied for is automatically considered as the application for the motor and control engineering department.

All departments will conduct primary and re-examinations for candidates who apply for the department, and pre-admit them according to the comprehensive scores fromhigh to low, and fill them up; after the pre-admission is completed, under the system-organization, the students and the tutors will be two-way. Select, each department will report the results of the two-way selection to the college for approval and determine the final admission list. The full-time postgraduate enrollment includes the promotion of students and the candidates, of which 70% of the full-time enrollment plan is planned for enrollment, and 30% of the full-time enrollment plan is open.
